26in. nitro reproved Greener trade mark barrels with fine acanthus scrollwork at the breech ends, rib engraved 'W.W. GREENER. MAKER. 29, PALL MALL. LONDON. S.W. WORKS ST. MARY'S SQUARE. BIRMINGHAM.', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. 3/4 and full choke, scroll-back treble-grip action with shoulders, arcaded fences deeply carved in relief with oak leaf and acorn motifs, the oak leaves echoed in the shoulders, toplever gold-inlaid with a crown, automatic side-safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, the housing finely engraved with a lone pheasant, the action profusely engraved with fine acanthus scrollwork and with oak leaves and acorns, ears of corn and bullrushes, interspersed with finely engraved vignettes of English setter, a covey of partridge in flight and spaniel flushing a brace of duck, the underside with woodcock and grouse, the triggerguard with a spaniel retrieving rabbit, the top-tang with a coiled snake encircling the screw-head, retaining much original colour-hardening and finish, 14 3/8in. well-figured stock with horn spearpoint drop points and ornate chequering borders, horn buttplate, the fore-end with Deeley and Edge patent release catch engraved with oak leaves, scrollwork and a solitary mallard, weight 6lb., in its lightweight leather case with green velvet interior with gold-tooled red leather makers label

Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that the gun was ordered on 26th July 1916 for a client in New York. The gun was completed on 6th February 1926 with 26in. barrels. The order for the stock length is listed as being "as long as possible" (presumably for fitting at a later point). The engraving was undertaken by Tomlinson in 1925
